#SoMeT15AU – Day One
After a few days of processing all the information from 2 intense days on the Sunshine Coast at the SoMet15AU symposium I finally have some time to put together my key takeaways.
Susan Sullivan from Bond University discussed Conversations, conversion and confrontation: using social media for social capital.
I think she hit the nail on the head when she reiterated time and again that too often in social media businesses look for the monetary return on investment rather than focus on the relationships they are building.
Tourism New Zealand was music to a digital marketers ears, sharing that 90% of their marketing budget is focussed on digital.
As marketers we should always be looking at what the barriers are for our customers and find ways to make the ‘sales’ process as easy as stress free as possible.
Lauren Bath Australia’s very first professional Instagrammer (and arguably the most envied woman in Australia) reminded us that when working with online influencers don’t focus solely on the numbers of followers, look for engagement.
The very passionate Simon Latchford from Sunshine Coast Destination Ltd. reminded us all that without the human connection marketing means very little at all.
